Chair yoga, 70+

Standing is optional.
Strength is not.

Everything happens seated or holding the back of a chair: ankles, grip, hips, balance, and the breath that steadies both. Classes cap at six, the average age is 78, and the average first-timer says "I should have come years ago." First class free, walker parking available.

The chair is not the concession

Seated is not a downgrade. Seated is a strategy.

Somewhere along the way, "chair yoga" became a euphemism for "not really yoga." Nonsense. The chair removes the two things that stop most bodies over seventy - getting down to the floor and the fear of falling - and keeps everything that matters: breath, ankles, hips, grip, and the confidence that comes from steady work.

Half our clients came because their children worried. They stay because their grip strength went up, their ankles stopped rolling, and the getting-out-of-the-car motion stopped being a project. That is the whole mission, six people at a time.

A regular Tuesday

The studio

Certified, patient, and early for everything

June Hardaway

Exercise-for-older-adults certified, twenty-two years, and a fall at fifty-eight that started all of it. Runs the studio like a good bridge club: warm, punctual, and quietly competitive about your progress.

Rosa Delgado

Fall-prevention certified, bilingual English-Spanish, and famous for the ankle routine that clients describe as "annoying and then miraculous."

Harold Bennett

79 and teaching. The men-only class exists because men over seventy will try anything Harold does, and Harold does everything carefully.

Megan O'Shea

Writes the monthly progress note for out-of-town children - plain English, no jargon, and the honest version.

Getting started

From first call to steady practice

01

Call or text Megan

Five minutes: health questions, medication cautions, which class fits. If we are not the right place, she will say so and suggest who is.

02

Your free class

Arrive fifteen minutes early, meet June, take the chair by the window. Everything is seated or chair-supported; nothing requires the floor, ever.

03

Twice a week

The improvement curve at twice weekly embarrasses once weekly, honestly. Rosa's ankle routine is where it starts.

04

The monthly note

Megan writes your people a plain-English update - balance, grip, attendance, mood. The children stop worrying measurably.

Client stories

What our clients say

« "My daughters in Denver arranged it; I attended to be polite. Eleven months later my balance test results made my doctor ask what changed. I told him: Tuesdays and Thursdays, and a Cuban woman who is strict about ankles." »

Eleanor V.
84, Sarasota

« "I run the activities program at a facility and June's Thursday class has a waitlist among residents who sign up for nothing else. Nothing. Else." »

Priya S.
activities director

« "After my stroke the private sessions were the first thing that felt like mine again. Harold is patient, the chair does not judge, and I stood for the national anthem in October. Sat back down proudly." »

Frank D.
76, stroke recovery

Frequently asked questions

Yes - Rosa teaches seated-from-any-seat, and the Care Package includes home visits. Wheelchairs are not accommodated; they are expected.
Instructors are CPR and fall-response certified, classes cap at six precisely so no one works unwatched, and we ask about (and plan around) every fall in the last year on the first call.
Our classes are private-pay wellness, not billable therapy. The Good News: at $18 a class, most clients spend less per month than on cable, with better results.
No sequences, no sanskrit quizzes, no floor work. Rosa cues everything in plain English and Harold demonstrates twice.
Family is always welcome to observe, and Megan will send the monthly note in advance so out-of-town family know exactly what they are seeing.
Whatever you can move in. The studio is shoes-off optional and average attendance is 78; there are no yoga fashion standards here.
